Hi friends,
Welcome to the Upside Down, where Beyoncé is back and Independence Day is apparently still a thing? It’s a mixed bag, to say the least.
If you’re feeling constant whiplash from all the ups and downs, SAME.
I don’t know how to feel. I’m just trying to be grateful that we still have the right to gather and protest and commiserate with our loved ones. So lean on your people today. Things might be bleak, but we’re all going to get through this together.
Organizations to Support in July
Planned Parenthood: Their network of clinics remain the largest single provider of reproductive health services, including abortion, in the U.S.
National Network of Abortion Funds: This site lets you browse grassroots organizations in your local area.
Water Drop LA: It’s been hot as balls here in Los Angeles*. Do your unhoused neighbors a solid and donate a few dollars to help provide much needed water bottles and ice packs to combat the ungodly heat.
*If you’re not in LA, consider researching a similar mutual aid fund in your city, or get in the habit of bringing a few frozen water bottles with you on outings.
Where We Could Be Headed in a Post-Roe America
I’ve seen a lot of posts talking about how we’re going back to a time before Roe. This article from The New Yorker argues that we’re actually going somewhere worse. It’s an interesting and eye-opening read to help understand the gravity of what the next few years may bring— and to light a fire under our asses to stop it.
A Gentle Reminder that Your Work ≠ Your Purpose
I saw this thread on Instagram and it resonated so much. It’s directed at nonprofit workers, but the message is universal.
Capitalism does a bang up job of making us feel like our purpose and self-worth have to be tied up in our work. We gotta stop internalizing this! And by “we” I fully mean myself lol.
✨ All together now: “My job is what I do, not who I am”. ✨
